FAQs
What Classes Does Raising Your Barre Offer?
We offer The English Method I and II, Stretch and Somatic Release, Adult Ballet I and II, Pilates I & II, and Myofascial Release & Bodywork. See all our classes here.
What is The English Method?
The English Method 1
WEEK 1. Rooted deeply in ballet technique & Pilates, The English Method is known as the most ballet-based barre workout out there—no prior dance experience needed, just a little coordination and curiosity. The class evolves every two weeks, progressively building in challenges from week 1 to week 2. We ALWAYS recommend taking the IllumeLab Intro before starting The English Method.
English Method I is the first week of a class cycle. We will go through combinations, form, and intention to ensure you are ready for week 2. The class structure moves you through warm up, barre exercises, mat pilates, & finishes with a short stretch and aromatherapy moment. Leaving you balanced, strong, and recharged.
The English Method II
WEEK 2. English Method II is the second week of a class cycle. This means we are moving at a faster pace and have added more combinations and core exercises to the class. We will spend less time on learning the combinations and more time on individual correction. We recommend only taking this class if you are already comfortable with The English Method or have taken The English Method I.
What is the IlumeLab English Method Intro Class?
Whether you're brand new to The English Method or craving a back-to-basics refresh, this class is where your movement journey begins. We’ll focus on clean alignment, intentional muscle activation, and building real connection between your mind and body.
This class walks you through all of the details of an English Method class. From what weights to use & combinations at the barre to where the laundry bins are - this is your time to ask questions and build confidence before your first English Method class.
Where is the studio located?
The studio address is 1390 Memorial Drive SE Suite B, Atl, GA 30317. The studio is on the top floor of the building, above East Atlanta Family Dental. There is not a sign out front, but you’ll see our swans in the windows upstairs. There are stairs on the left side of the building, leading up to the studio entrance.
Where do I park?
We share the parking lot with East Atlanta Family Dental. There are 5 designated parking places for Raising Your Barre. When those are full, there is free street parking on Memorial Terrace SE. Classes ending before 8 am and beginning after 5 pm may park in any spot in our parking lot. As everywhere in Atlanta, don’t leave valuables visible in your car. See parking map here.
Can I walk in to join a class?
No, all classes are through prior registration.
What should I wear to class?
Socks of any type are required while in the studio space. While we do not require grippy socks, they are highly recommended to ensure the safety and success of your workout. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in, such as leggings or fitted sweatpants. Baggy clothes can get in the way.
What if I arrive late?
It is important to be warmed up before joining a class late. While we do not lock you out of class when you are late, please use good judgment when deciding if it is appropriate to join in. If you are past 10 minutes late, we do not recommend joining class. This is to protect you from injury.
What if I need to cancel my class?
You can cancel your class with no penalty up to 8 hours before the class. If you cancel within the 8 hour window, you will incur a $15 penalty fee. If you no-show to a class, you will incur a $25 penalty fee. Our small class size means that other members may be on the waitlist, late cancels and no shows take away their opportunity to take the vacant spot.
What if the class I want to take is full?
We suggest joining the waitlist for the class, if anyone cancels their reservation, the next person on the waitlist will be offered the slot.
I’ve never done barre before. What should I expect?
No Problem! When you attend your IllumeLab Session we will go over all of the basics you need to know so you’ll feel confident walking in for your first class. And, read our Complete Guide to Barre.
I have taken barre at other places. Will this be the same?
The English Method is not like other barre classes you may have taken. This class is more deeply rooted in ballet technique and pilates. We suggest coming into the program with an open mind and an expectation to do something a little different.
Am I too out of shape to take a class?
Of course not! It is important to show up being ok with where you are at in your fitness journey. You will see a variety of levels in class. We expect clients to listen to their bodies and modify movement where necessary. Comparison is natural, but you are on your own journey, not anyone else’s.
Can I take a class if I’m pregnant?
Absolutely, though we do suggest confirming with your doctor prior to beginning classes. Depending on where you are in your pregnancy, modifications to movement may be required.
I’m nursing an injury. Can I participate?
If you are cleared by your doctor, we’d love to have you. We can talk about your injury and recovery in your IllumeLab session so you’ll be able to make the most of your class time. It might be helpful to consider booking a couple of private sessions to work on targeted issues.
Are there rules at Raising Your Barre?
Just a few. Cell phone use is not permitted in class, or waiting and dressing areas and photography and/or videography is expressly prohibited unless given explicit permission by Raising Your Barre LLC. Each client will use equipment as intended and will wipe down all equipment after each use and re-rack any equipment used. People under the age of 18 are not allowed unless given explicit permission and children are under supervision. Any inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
Do you have a place for coats, bags and shoes?
Yes we do, we have cubbies and shoe racks. We ask that you take off your shoes as soon as you enter.
When does my membership activate?
It begins the day of your first class.
Can I put my membership on hold?
All classes on membership packages roll over each month, so freezing isn’t necessary — less paperwork for both you and me. Class packs and introductory offers can not be frozen. If you have a special circumstance, email us so we can help.
What is your membership cancellation policy?
We offer memberships with either a 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month contract. If you would like to cancel your membership at the end of this contract, please do so at least 30 days before your contract automatically renews. We will send you an email to let you know your contract is about to renew for another 3, 6, or 12 months, giving you ample time to cancel, if you do not wish to continue your membership.
Members who relocate more than a 20-mile radius from the studio may cancel their membership by providing a 30-day written notice along with proof of relocation. Payments will no longer be deducted after 30-days, aside from an early termination fee.
